"You're not used to compliments," Nocturne stated. No need to question that as he saw how uncomfortable she was, though there was a chance that was just her skittishness coming back to the forefront and she didn't know where this compliment would lead. He worried about what had happened in her life but he knew he hadn't earned that level of trust or the right to push for it. Perhaps one day, since fate decided they should meet again, giving him permission--based on his rule he made up on the first meeting--to try for friendship.
"You're a decent enough liar, though. I know plenty of people who would disagree with you." He smiled as he teased them both, and drank half of what was left in his cup. He was going to add that the ones that would agree with her were his sister's classmates but Nocturne didn't think CJ would appreciate that.
He thought he felt his phone vibrate and peeked at the screen to see a reply from Lyric. He could feel her eyeroll through the screen as she said she didn't recognize the bunny and not all rabbits were shifters. He didn't bother replying, figuring he could give details in person later. He stared at the black screen a moment but then shoved it into his pocket. He wanted to get CJ's number but he had a strong feeling she wouldn't give it, especially after the compliment made her clam up a bit. "Lyric didn't find any mention of a missing rabbit. Do you want to go for a stroll and see if we can find it or others?"
