Without looking at him, Asher nodded to both points, apparently showing an utter disinterest at this juncture. He hunched over his glass as he had been when Nocturne arrived, and continued to sip and order.
”A pleasure,” he agreed, and though he let the words come tiredly, there was some spark to them that might have suggested candour. For what reason, though, would remain ambiguous.
When the other man turned to leave, Asher pulled his phone out from his pocket and futzed around with it for a while before figuring out how to take a boomerang. Nocturne was still speaking to the woman he’d pointed out when the alpha lifted his phone and shot a short clip of the crowd, sure to include the younger man, and promptly posted it to his Instagram stories. These weren’t a common occurrence for Asher, but they weren’t entirely out of the blue, either; a totally normal thing for a guy to do when out on a Saturday evening, right? He tagged the nightclub and wrote: “Great bourbon and scenery @MasqueradeNC ??” before locking his phone, stuffing it back in his pocket, and turning to the bartender and presenting them with his credit card.
Not a moment later and the wolf was gone, his empty glass abandoned in his wake, leaving plenty of time for Nocturne not only to wonder where he went, but consider himself safe on his way home. Or perhaps he’d feel watched. Either way, Asher no control over that now, did he?
